55gal - Suggestions?

Hey all! I have a 55gal fish tank that I'd like to use for some type of reptile or amphibian. I have a HUGE piece of natural wood that would look beautiful inside of it, so I'd like something that climbs. I really like snakes, tropical lizards (sailfin, water dragon, etc.), or anything that I could keep a communal of (frogs???). I don't want anything that is super high maintenance or that requires very specific care but I am capable of something a little bit more advanced than "beginner". :) I'll be researching any suggestions given and I'll definitely post pictures of the end result before and after adding the animal. Price is also something to consider ;)

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on how to sterilize a piece of wood that is too large for the oven please share!

Thanks again everyone

This question is almost useless without a budget, I have a $10k snake in mind.

Haha well I don't really have a specific budget but the cheaper something is, the quicker I wil be able to prepare for it and obtain it :) for now let's just say around $100 or less. There are a couple adult male white Texas rat snakes avalaible locally, so if someone mentions something cheaper or cooler then that would be great!

So what is your 10k suggestion?

W/that budget you could do a bit. Not sure about planted vivaria, but there are some people on here that know a lot about it. For snakes, plenty of North American snakes to choose from under $100, but often they are hatchlings and that tank would be too large generally. You could do a leopard gecko colony if you made a desert landscape. 55 is pretty large, you could do a large setup for many White's Tree Frogs. They can do well in a lot of space.

Do any especially interesting ones comes to mind? I would definitely prefer a reptile to an amphibian so that I don't have to worry as much about wood rot.

Like I said, a Texas linguistic rat snake is at the top of my list atm :)

And like you WROTE in your FIRST question, you also mentioned FROGS!! If that snake is at the top of your list, then why bother shoot down suggestions which fit YOUR description. At that rate, why bother even ask if that's your #1 choice let alone ask for any just get the snake and be done with it. Crazy woman! ;P;P;P:p:p:p

But I don't know much about reptiles, so there could be ;)

Ohhhh now I see  You really could build a nice desert vivarium, and I think that would be cheapest compared to tropical. IF you were going that route. You could use a desert one for certain snakes too.

Hmmm i could be into that :) maybe keep a rattler??? ;)

Any species you would suggest? I don't really like sand boas, maybe a gilla monster or two?

I'd look up some king snakes or some other constrictors out West in California, or Central Plains regions.

I always thought beardies were pretty cool but I was never really into them. Plus hey don't really like to climb much do they? ;)

I always though sailfins were really cool, but they wouldn't be able to stay in a 55gal would they?

WRONG haha, they do like to climb, in Australia you can find them siting/sunning on split-rail fence posts frequently. They are quite equipped for a certain amount of climbing.

You need to bone up on reptiles ;)

See someone else posts a great idea and shot down, I don't know why you even posted this hahah

BTW, Sailfin dragons require A LOT of room, and are not the easiest animals to take care.

Just get your rat snake

SOMEONE suggest frogs..NOPE...someone suggested a lizard NOPE...blah blah...Next time someone posts one of these questions I'm going to ask them... "What do you like and WHY?", Most people already know what they are getting next or want (even you are just about sold on that rat snake), these public opinion surveys are useless hahah ;P
