so yesterday i went to my local pet store to buy some crickets for my rosie. saw a small juvie a avic and she looked so cute i just had to handle her! keep in mind the only t ive ever held was a rosie so i was expecting a sluggish type movement. well when no one was looking i opened her kritter cage and nudged her into my hand. and wow was she full of life! she was realy giddy and jumpy and loved to walk. it was awesome. she was much faster and skittish than my rosie so this was new to me. well after a minute or 2 of handling i put her back. i thought about getting her but herself and the enclosure was 40 bucks.
i went to the front counter to pay for the crickets and to my surprise i see a small 1 1/2 inch obt sling nestled in his small enclosure. with the small obt labeled 30 i tried to bargain and got the guy to agree with a price of 40 for both. well this guy clearly had no idea what he was about to face. and i warned him about the speed. so he tries to nudge the little obt towards the opening and the thing bolts around its enclosure taking at least 5 laps around within 1-2 seconds and than darts right around the guy and under all the crap they had behind the counter.
this dude was pissed. he was on his knees looking for it and so was i. i knew there was no way in hell we were going to get this thing so i told him to take my number if he does come across it. after all that mayhem i asked if i could take the little avic for 10. no prob.
it sucks that the little obt got away but at least i brought home this little girl. its going to be interesting hearing about what happens in the future with the missing obt in the pet store but to be honest i think it will die. the thing was so tiny i dont think it will be able to live. there is a chance though since there were many dead crickets behind the desk and it was warm from the computers. idk just a crazy experience.:rolleyes:

any way here his gerald. gave it that name before i was informed that it may be female. if it is female, gerald will remain the name. haha. enjoy

here a pic of her underside. the white spec under her fangs isnt anything bad is it?

Try to get the white stuff and inspect it more carefully. Could be nematodes, could be mites. Personally, I'm quite hygenic when comes to my T's. I keep on checking up if theres anything attached to their bodies so from the looks of things you should check that white stuff out.

And congrats on your new addition.

They're white, wet and wormy. If it is what I think it is, its best to take it out. Better safe than sorry but thats just me being overly concerned. :}

Nice T. That white stuff may just be leftover food or poop or something. It happens. If you see it returning or getting worse or moving then be concerned. Also the T may excessively groom around its mouth if they are nematodes.

As for settling in, IME Avics will stop pacing and exploring after about a week or two but they don't really settle in and start webbing until they've had a molt in there. After the first molt in a new cage they always seem to get jiggy with the webbing and really make it their home.
