My boyfriend wants to handle the new rosehair I bought him the other day. I think he wants some reassurance from the experts on this forum..... Any tips? He has 'slight" arachonphobia........ She seems to be pretty calm so far... Thanks!!

I don't think there's much to it. If you're nervous, use a paint brush (As I always lose mine, I just use my finger...It'll catch up with me sooner or later. When my Pokie was pissed, it nearly did.) and touch the rear of the tarantula just to check it's temperment. Even the calmest of Ts can seem to have bad days.

If it's calm, just place your hand in front of it and gently coax it on to your hand with the paint brush.

That's pretty much all there is to it.

The key is to not freak out. Freak out and stuff happens. I doubt it'll bite, but you may end up with a dead spider if he flings it off.

I can't hold my rose without having him get scared to death! Whenever I touch his butt gently and slowly with a paintbrush he just goes flying out of his cage and usually landing on me somewhere. Now I only hold my non-schitzo Ts.

Same here. My rosie goes ballistic if I even lift her tank lid. She's really skittish and I've only ever held her once. My B.vagans is totally placid though and does not seem at all bothered by being poked and pushed about. My B.smithi is a super-flicker. The temperament of a T seems to be largely individual. Give your rosie a gentle touch and see what she does. Try to stay calm.

Try this................:)
Let the T come out of its home, then put your hand in front of it,
and give it a brush on the rear.
This is how I handle my T's. If they are away from their home
they seem to have a better attitude.
Getting bit is always a possibility with ANY T. If you take your time
you should be fine.
Have fun and try to get some pictures.

I have a nicely designed spatula that is wide and angled right..i put it in front of my G.rosea and touch his butt..he walks onto the spatula...i lift the spatula out, sit down and then just use my finger to guide him off of it onto my hand...:D
