I took care of my husband's collection for a bit while he was away. Part of his collection included a brand new mommy Pterinochilus murinus hovering over her puffy white eggsac. Well, they hatched in my care and I just thought I'd share the 141 little joys!

Btw, though this is not our first eggsac, it is the first one I've been in charge of. So please don't attempt to kill my joy by saying they're just OBTs. :)

The eggsac was laid 8/22/09 and little ones started sneaking out of the eggsac on 9/15/09.

Here is the eggsac that first day they came out of it:

Here is the proud mommy with 1st instars hanging out on her web:

And now for some close-ups on the slings:

And here I ever so gently transported the first sling to a vial:
(I know it was a bit moist, but this was taken care of, I promise!)

That's awesome! I have no idea how you could possibly take those all out without going insane though.

I know! There were a lot more than I expected. Luckily my husband got home just a day and a half after they hatched. So I helped pull out the first half or so and then he did the rest.

Those are still first instar. They technically arent slings yet. I would have put them in an incubator untill they where 2nd instars, but its not my sac so you can take care of them however you want.

Congratulations. I think that any sucessful T breeding is something to admire, no matter what species!

I also have a big 4.5-5 inch OBT mamma laying on an eggsac I think. I say I think because she was bred a couple months ago and webbed herself in her hide almost 2 weeks ago.

Anyways, sorry for the minor thread jack, but Im just trying to share your excitement, lol.

Your going to have your hands full for a while!

The reason we decided to separate them at first instar stage is because they were starting to disperse. We didn't want them escaping into the house like many on this forum have had happen recently - as fun as that would be. :) My husband did this with his last OBT sac with no ill effects.
Good luck with your OBT! Hopefully you'll have your hands full soon too.

Make that 145!

We've been keeping an eye on the massive thickets of webbing just in case and guess what we spotted. 4 more OBTs came out of hiding! Sheesh. And I thought we were pretty thorough. Guess we'll just keep watching. :)
