So i have a 125gal fish tank (6ft long x 2ft tall x 2ft wide) and i want to do a communal tank of T's. My only issue is what sp. should i put in there. I thought to myself an LP community would be cool but even with that size i dont think it could be successfully done. I definately want terrestrial's so i can have lots of nice burrows. can A. bicoloratum be kept communally? i think that would be awesome. Let me know what you think, what kind of T should i do?

asking for trouble

the only t communals that really worked out from what ive heard are from small tank with a lot of slings that were raised together

and they dont really live together they just tolerate eachother

but ive seen some cool stuff from pokie communals

hmmm, thanks for the tip, i wouldnt want anyone to get hurt, but i have read before of certain Aphonoplema sp. being kept in large communal setups. i will certainly have to do much more research, but still if anyone has ideas on how it might work well/or not well that would be much appreciated

I've heard some reports of p. murinus kept communally by some people, though there seems to be debate as to whether they just put up with each other or actually lived communally - or will just kill each other. But thats a possibility. Last I checked there were also readily available slings that can be bought from the same sac. Everything I've heard about communals suggests they must be raised together from hatching...

Never tried a communal myself, so I can't really say for sure. But thats the terrestrial my mind is coming up with from what I've read so far!

Let us know what you decide and get pics of the set up when you do. Good luck!

Way to big lol..Ya what clam1991 said. Pokies do really well in communal. You should do it with regalis but of course in a much smaller cage.

P. murinus may be interesting, and when i get the money they are cheap enough to buy a bunch and not be overly sad when one or two get picked off. what happens if it works out and they are from the same sac and potentially breed? i thought it was better to raise from slings a bunch with some genetic variation. Also why would it work in a smaller tank with Pokies, i always thought the more room the better (also more Ts possible)?

P Murinus seem somewhat tolerative in my opinion. I've had a group of 5 (well now 3, yes...) for a while now. They build webs separate from each other and seem to stay apart. But on the plus side they're very inexpensive so you don't lose much.

I also have a 5x p. regalis gorup for about a year now. Much more social, they share the same hides and are often huddled together. Not lost any. I much prefer these, but they do cost a lot more (people practically give away P. murinus). Not that P. regalis are really that expensive, $15-$20 seems to be norm for slings.

Except for some Pamphos sp (like the chicken spider), most NW terrestrial are quite mutualy intolerant. Arboreals in general and some OW terrestrial fare better. But generalities aren't acurate much. H incei is easily communal, H Norte del Santander isn't.

A true communal is the H. incei.
Yep. Check this out. I post this link pretty much every time the communal T question comes up because it's just so dang cool.

Several spp of poecilotheria are truly communal as well. Pamphobeteus sp "Chicken Spider" exhibits communal rearing/feeding but they're not in the hobby yet so it's a moot point.

Apparently H gigas also rear their young in a communal fashion and share food. Whether this means that multiple "family units" will tolerate each other's presence is another question entirely. That would be an interesting experiment though. Fill your 125gal with 110 gallons of dirt, toss in 10 slings and see what happens. I don't know if this has been tried beyond just allowing a mama to keep her slings for a while.
