In terms of hardiness, Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (the GBB) is very good. You can start transitioning to dry substrate when it is still small (at 1.5" if not 1"). Species that like it dry or only a little damp are great for beginners. (Species that like more moisture, such as Theraphosa, are...
I've had this sling for 7 months now and have never actually seen her (no idea what sex it is) do this before. As far as I'm aware they like everything bone dry, so this sort of surprised me seeing it from her. Is sitting over their water bowl normal for this species? I make sure the bowl is...
Back on topic.
Stay away from the C. dyscolus (I'm assuming that's a "Vietnam Blue", I hate common names) for now, they are a more advanced OW species that are stupidly fast, can be very defensive and can potentially send you to the ER if you get tagged.
Some good starters that are colourful...
here is picture of GBB enclosure . Her hide is sealed with webing . As far i know she was in premolt . last owner told that she refused food , she was slow and there was visible small dark spot on abdomen.
brachypelmas was not in premolt , just digging and hiding . LP is fine and active (she...
Share some pictures of your setup it's easy to over do it with moisture, especially for C.cyaneopubescens. Nothing you describe is unusual for sling behavior, again pics would help clarify.
That's more work than you needed to do. I would suggest replacing the top with a new one with just a few holes in the top. Conversely, pop a couple rings of holes around the sides of the cup.
Humidity isn't something that needs to be measured or even paid attention to.
Feed it as often as...
There are many great choices..and if you look around, there's about 2,348 other threads outlining your question. But here we go again.https://gohopscotch.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/spoon-feed.jpg
Euthalus species, especially the red and yellow are indeed among the best starters...
Welcome to the hobby! I'm happy to see new people being introduced to these wonderful animals.
Having kept both tarantulas and fish, I can definitely say that tarantulas are "a better 'fish,'" as you put it. Tarantulas are much lower-maintenance than even the simplest aquarium, and many species...
I am not familiar with the bean weevil. I don't think they are available here in the USA. Perhaps some of our members from your area can answer on that, but I suspect they will be fine if they are sold in a place that sells tarantulas. I make sure the prey is not a much bigger (in volume)...
Thank you very much. I am not planning to handle I whole lot. Mostly when 1 people want to see and 2 for taming reasons for when I go in there she/he has a smaller chance to nip XD. But I know too much about Petco and I never buy from them (at least their animals). And I watched every video on...
Welcome to the hobby :)
Handling is not advised, as i'm sure you've read while going through your research. If you insist on handling, make sure your hands are close to the ground, so when it bolts, it hopefully doesn't take a deadly plunge. (Notice how i say 'when' instead of 'if' ;) )
I'm not...
For me, it depends on the specimen. My G. rosea and C. cyaneopubescens have just a water dish and get no misting. The soil remains dry. I've never seen my GBB drink, but I've seen my G. rosea drink from her water dish several times. My A. purpurea juvenile gets a plastic bottle cap for a...
I have two M.balfouri communal setups and one lone tiny sling. When they are small slings I kept them on lightly moist substrate. Now that they are bigger I keep them on dry substrate except for wetting a corner of the substrate every other month. They have a water dish in one corner in case...
It seems like it is too damp to me as well. I normally keep a decent sized gatorade bottle cap for water and I only dampen the substrate a bit when it gets really dry looking(coco fiber and peat moss will start shrinking leaving a gap around the edges of the enclosure). Then I let it dry out...
I got him as a juvenile so I'm not sure how old he is. I was told the tarantula wasn't sexed and at the time had no idea when they could be sexed. I picked it up and took it home. I've had him for 5 months or so and was able to get it sexed after his last molt. His last molt was a healthy 3.5...
hi everyone. i've been having a lot of my slings die in the past few months, so i was wondering if you could help me figure out what's going on.
about a year ago, i got 5 Ts shipped to me: 1 A. chalcodes, 1 C. cyaneopubescens, 1 Euathlus sp. red, 1 P. murinus (a freebie), and 1 H. sp...
