Well, about a year later and managed to check off:
- true S. gigantea
- E. olivaceae (albeit I now only have one, so may need to secure a female)
- C. doriae
- sp. “Sumatran Tiger”
and a lot of the easier-to-find ones.
I saw a picture of one recently and found them amazing. Their natural habitat also sounds interesting.
Have you kept one?
What's your experience with this species?
I can't find them for sale atm but i will keep an eye out for sure.
Thanks for the replies. It's been quite helpful in refining my thoughts and ideas.
I understand your point on temperament, but please note: I am not saying that this "socialization" or "development" is meant to "tame" or "condition" a Tarantula into becoming a docile pet. I only meant it in the...
...tarantulas unique within the infraorder is their diversity and adaptations to specific habitats. For example, the species Pachistopelmabromelicola has adapted both physically and behaviorally to life within bromeliad plants which makes them unique among the tarantulas. However, mate...
I question the morality of keeping something like a dwarf caiman in captivity. For me, tarantulas usually set up shop somewhere and just wait for prey, so I dont really mind keeping them in captivity. Plus theyre inverts, who cant really think. The alligators here in Florida have a spot they...

Ones you can get but are pricy and/or rare:

Very nice answer @AphonopelmaTX 👍
One small, nitpicky question: I've never seen the term boreal used that way. For organisms that live on the ground, we could call them ground-dwelling, terrestrial, or terricolous.
Boreal means northern -- from Latin borealis "northern" -- from Greek mythology...
...species of tarantula either. Life just does not like to fit into nice categories for us to use. For example, the species Pachistopelmabromelicola, which live in the leaves of bromeliad plants, isn't technically arboreal (they don't live in trees), semi-arboreal (again they don't live in...
Hey!
Does anyone have any solid info about this species. Like if it it arboreal or terrestrial?
I have mine setup as a usual Avicularia/Caribena enclosure. More height and with some corkbark. But it mostly stays on the ground and not a webber at all like Avicularia or Caribena.
Here is a...
If you ever decide to breed P. cambridgei, I have an immature male right now. I do need to pick up another sling in hopes of a female. Psalmopoeus is great! I aspire to have every psalmopoeus species available in the hobby at some point.
Out of all the ones I've raised they're the best eaters as slings and hardiest species out of the entire subfamily.
Neither genus is suitable for beginners, both genera are widely regarded as some of the (if not the) fastest in the hobby and their venom packs more of a punch than other NW...
