Ah, so your the lucky one. I am friends with Matt, and I was taking a look at it at the Repticon last weekend, plus, how often do you see one of these for sale? Such a cool spider.
Let us know how it does!
yup, matts a really cool guy. so far its doin pretty good and its made a web like a sack which makes me think its actually a purseweb spider of some kind
@TrapdoorSpiderLover You are correct in this being a purseweb spider. The spider pictured is a spider from the family Atypidae (pursewebs). Atypids have incredible large chelicerae and fangs in relation to the body length with short stumpy legs. Exactly what the spider in the picture looks like.
By the way, this gallery is for tarantulas. In the future, post requests for non-tarantula spider IDs to the True Spiders & Other Arachnids forum.
With just your username alone we have alot in common. Australia may have the most trap species of any country, but I'm still damn jealous of this beauty
@TrapdoorSpiderLover I don't have any redheads, but I have plenty of eastern mice and funnelwebs. Have a look through my media pages if you wanna see a few.
Unfortunately we don't get any purse webs like this stunner, closest we get are probably wishbones but they are far off nonetheless.
@TrapdoorSpiderLover they are there, just gotta look in the right spots. Actually heading to America for about 4 weeks on the 19th so really hoping to get an opportunity to see some wild ones along the way
