As hot and dry as the summer has been in more southern parts of Europe as wet and cold has it been around here up north with average temps of 16°C (=61F) in August and constant rain. In consequence there are fewer flying insects around and that means that the spider population is struggling, especially orb weavers and similar that depend on flying insects. It is spider mating time at the moment, but a lot of females have not reached breeding size yet. This one looks good, though, but a little bit extra food is probably ok
