Cercropia moth caterpillar. Found this guy in the woods outside my house in Massachusetts a few summers back. ENORMOUS green caterpillar with rockstar red yellow and blue bumps. Metamorphoses into Cercropia moth, largest moth sp. in North America
@PidderPeets I just happened to walk by this guy and my friend said "WHAT IS THAT??"
It was eating on a small scrub oak next to an old overgrown wood pile. It looks soooo huge and crazy, I had to tear ass back up to the house to grab my camera and document the thing. Later found out what it was and felt really lucky to see it, such a neat bug
@Leila Haha thank you very much! Most of these are photos I have taken over the years and have held on to. Only recently joined this community and have been so happy to finally have a place to share them. Facebook friends have not been huge fans, but everyone here seems to appreciate them I love wildlife photography, especially if I can get up close and personal with some pretty insects
@maggiefiasco Yeah, they really do get massive. I remember my biggest girl being as thick as my thumb! And the moths are equally magnificent. Truly a great find
@PidderPeets Being situated where we were just off the water, and being the only house for a long while around in a rural area, our porch light attracted an incredible amount of various moths. Saw Luna moths on several ocassions too, those are always so gorgeous as well
