@Staehilomyces what is the "safe" way to handle a pede? I'm not being a smart alek or anything, truely curious. I figured there was no "safe" handling as they could bite any time they wish like a T, Is there a trick I'm missing?
Ask @Mastigoproctus, he's expert on revealing the softer side of centipedes. I'm following his tactics, and they have worked wonders on my previously very jumpy S.morsitans.
@magicmed While of course I do not advice handling centipedes (I know that you are only asking out of curiosity) I have heard that, not blocking the centipede way is a "trick move" for reduce bites risks, but if I'm not wrong they can perform test bites as well so...
There are ways to approach and interact with a centipede which are unlikely to result in a bite. You can also habituate a centipede to human touch, to the point you can just reach in and pick them up (see ThePureLife channel on YouTube)
This one had no work done to it, except a gentle approach for a bit before picking up. It's just a really docile individual.
As for there always being a chance of being bitten, well yes, so long as it has fangs it can bite, and it may well do so if it gets stuck or scared. Also, certain species/individuals seem to sometimes decide to insert their fangs into you, without any aggression. So its never going to be 100% safe, but neither is talking to a drunk human at a bar, but unless you do something stupid or get unlucky you'll most likely be fine.
