Scolopendra dehaani cherry red on my hand

😳 erm have you actually seen what the side affects are from these if they strike?
Watch the brave wilderness upload where he gets tagged on purpose...you may not be so keen to risk yourself then.

Fair enough n yer he used a pump kit straight away to bring the venom bk out.

I don't think they are like that, yes they are defensive but I would be too if I was that size 🤷🏻‍♀️. I have always suspected a bad press situation same with spiders.
I have often wondered if they could be given things to test them. They seem to be very good at finding the smallest gaps in things I would be testing that ability with food in boxes ect to see how long it took for them to investigate and find a way in, I wouldn't be able to help myself 😆.

agreed, they are quite smart, i don't handle or socialise/de-sensibilize mine, but they are fairly calm once they get used to their environment.

i especially enjoy watching them stalk pray at a snails pace, following their sent trail by brushing their antennae over the surface of leaf litter until they eventually discover them and spring into action, that's just the best. The final catch is exciting too, but the slow methodical stalking is even more fascinating to me. It makes sense why many Scolopendra sp. like to hunt in trees too, since they know the prey will eventually run into a dead end.
