My first T's (Brachypelma auratum) first molt since I got them back in November 2024. My guess is male. Broke my heart, because poor baby lost right legs III and IV in the process. You can see them still in the molt here. :( Humidity was around 75%, so I hope that wasn't the issue.
I haven't yet checked to see if there are hooks or emboli if this could have been a final molt if they are a male, but I'm just letting them rest and recover. They have moved around (not a lot), but have still been able to get to different locations. I haven't seen them actively moving, but have spotted them in several different locations (but still close to the original molt site) since.
Also weirdly, they made a molt mat, but didn't molt ON it, and went elsewhere to do so. Could that also have been part of the issue?
Something seems really strange about this molt - I can see one of the fangs, but it looks clear, like you would expect to see on the T immediately following a molt. Hopefully it didn't lose a fang/chelicera in addition to some legs...
That said, I can't sex this molt. You need to open up the abdomen so I can see the inside, between the front set of book lungs.
