Males have 29-41 females have 24-31 pectinal teeth per pectine. Hard to to see operculum but maybe female. Are you holding that scorp by the tail with tongs!?

Oh, to be clear I don’t hold him high over the floor. I had a photo set area just under there but realized the photo doesn’t show it! I promise I’m not dangling my scorps over a canyon.
it can break off the stinger in some cases, but you are probably fine. So besides counting look at the size, if they seem long it's a boy. And again check the operculum shape, that's the easiest tell in my book
