While, the pic's not very good in terms of color, but it's definitely H.maculata and not S.calceatum. I used to own a 4.5'' female S.cal before she died of a bad molt, and it looked a lot different than this T. Now I have a 1'' sling as a replacement
Although carapaces are over built between the 2 Ts are identical...the patterns in the abdomen are a complete giveaway and it's really not hard to see. If you compare the two side by side. H.maculata, has a spotted cream brown/white spotted pattern around the traditional black outlining. Even tho the pic isn't the best you can see the spotted highlights well on this pic. S.cal as you know are much much more darker, they're yellowish in appearance as opposite to white/creamy brown in H.maculata, so the spotted patterns don't even show up, and you only see the black outline. I'm sure if the poster can post a better pic, then I can assure you it's 100% H.maculata. I make educational vids on Ts nearly everyday on youtube, so I don't usually muck this up.
Its definitely not P.lugardi LOL. Was it from a petstore?
Yes it was lol but because it was listed as something different got it for 15 bux and I will try to get a better pic this was taken with my phone durring rehousing
I know that's the perks but also the bad of buying from pet stores. They ALWAYS ALWAYS mislabel specimens, and that's why its so important to be level-headed and do research before buying. Fortunately I was able to snag a M.lambertoni female from a petshop that was mislabelled and got it for $105...The species was worth more than $400
There's no really need unless you want to...we got the ID perfectly
I know quit a bit about the h. maculata I had a sling that passed from a bad molt always wanted another one and finally got it even tho now hes used to his home and wont leave his hide...lol
