I worked with the cobra all weekend, but realized that it wasn't for my basement. Appearance is irrelevant to attitude in my state. It is forbidden, but in the future the authorities will call me for seizures etc... That means I catch or more likely - get the animals from a desolate household - and take care of them temporarily until I can rehome them.

Yes, it is state-recognized - there is only the official route here. I had now taken 3 courses with corresponding exams over 8 months. Terrarium studies, animal and species protection, then a certificate of specialist knowledge, species protection, recognition, transport, handling, etc... and finally the handling of potentially dangerous animals - within the context of terraristics, i.e. poisonous snakes, giant snakes from 3 meters and crocodiles / alligators . However, I don't have any plans to get started now, I just want to pursue my hobby without any problems, and it's only good if you can show that.
I have currently had contact with many, many species. Last weekend alone I was able to work with Naja, Bitis, Heloderma, Python sebae, Agkistrodon, Atheris and Cerastes. Adequate contact persons are always there (biologists, appropriately trained animal keepers and veterinarians).
And yes, it is expenvive - but it was worth it!

You have to ask your government. But they also do it in english - last year a chinese (who else;-) made the tests. You can find everythning under dght.de or write a pn.
