This young lady decided to make her winter home in my stack of egg carton pieces in the garage, so I dropped her piece in a deli cup and decided to grow her up. She's eating well, so seems promising. You can still clearly see her setae and she doesn't have her red mark on the abdomen yet.
I love these spiders , not ones I can get readily like you as I am in the uk but I keep the steatoda I find in my house instead, its as close as I am getting to a real one lol she's gorgeous though keep us updated on her please, can't wait to see her get her red markings

That is a beauty! I do wish we had these in the UK also! Im hoping to find a steatoda here this spring as a compromise haha Do you know roughly how old this specimen is? Please keep us updated on her.

If your looking for steatoda now is the time to find them with it getting warmer they are starting to come out I found an af making a web in the corner of my kitchen a few days ago n I am in the North east so it isn't the warmest up here but they are still coming out. I know the one I just found is old as she's got the fuzz they get as old females she was missing a leg too so I housed her to see out her days in peace . Great little spoods got 3 now keep looking you'll find one

That's amazing to find one in your house! I tend to find some beastly Tegenaria domestica but thats about it and maybe the odd Dolomedes species as i have a marsh at the back of my garden, and then its just upland/mountain. I live in South Wales. I do have a nature reserve less than 250 meters from my house, and its all untouched woodland so il have a little gander there also but before that il check the shed just in case. Np always happy to help a fellow native spood lover we have a nature reserve and train track either side of us so get alot of different sp of spiders in our house , I also have a long haired cat that likes to bring little outdoor spiders in his coat when he comes in , I also kinda turned my bk garden into a mini nature reserve so get alot of different spiders from that too . Never found a steatoda outside though only ever in my home . But we get steatoda, Tegeneria, Pholcidae, Scotophaeus, plus missing sectors orb weavers, normal orb weavers, crab spiders, invisible spiders, lace weavers, comb footed spiders, and jumping spiders, just to name a few. Will be warmer near you than near me so you should also look forward to finding all these sp kicking around your house as I find all these sp round my house n in my garden theres alot more but if I list the lot the message would go on forever you'd be surprised how many sp live around the walls of your house

I'll try to keep updating as she grows. She's been eating well for me, so I'm guessing she'll molt soon. As for age, this would have hatched out in late summer or early fall of 2022.
