T.seladonia 2i
This species has barely been in the hobby. "So long" hardly- what is that a NY Minute haha NIce T.
Well it’s been in the hobby long enough for me to want it for 2+ years. Not going to lie, I usually get species I want within a year.

Hardly a long time hahah, now if you waited 10 yrs- that's a long time.

So how is the trap door building going? What have you observed so far? I've seen one in person before PalpFaction caused trouble. It was a juvi female, TINY. I've seen PFs video w/them inside the cork bark. Did you carve out holes?

Okay okay, It just feels like a long time 😅😝

Yes I used a drill to make some holes for them on cork bark. I also sprinkled ground cork and moss in the holes and around the cork and enclosure. They’ve all started on their trapdoors but it’s taking awhile. Every morning I wake up to a little more progress. I’ve even seen one put a piece of cork onto the webbing. It took the tiny piece of cork in its fangs, put its fangs over the web...then situated it on the web with its fangs and palps.

They’ve all eaten a few times. Fruit flies weren’t working for me, they just flicked them away annoyingly. So I tried pinheads or a tiny bit bigger than pinheads and that was a huge hit.

That’s about all I’ve observed so far. I will say before they find a hole they just wander aimlessly, nonstop. Around and around the enclosure.

Congrats on your new little ones. I was considering one, but if I had to attend to one more sling at the moment I’d go mad. I literally had one in a shopping cart, then went to feed a dozen slings, came back and was like cant do it. For now it’ll stay on my wish list to give me something to look forward to in the future. Look forward to updates.

You should begin a thread with this info- more questions below

How big were the holes?
How big were the Ts that went into the holes?
Walked around “24/7” or periodically?
How is the humidity being done? I’ve heard from earlier owners that they’ve used plants for this a bit.
Have you observed them going to sub floor for bits of material to make trap door?
How is their feeding response, when hungry?
Have you observed them drinking, or are they getting liquid from food only?
How many prey items do they eat in a single meal, how large are the Ts, how large are the prey (size is important)
What is the frequency of their eating?
What temps are you keeping them?
Trapdoor- how long is a while??

Need specifics on all questions- thanks!

I honestly have only had them 10ish days so I can’t give super specific answers. I have no idea if I’m caring for them right. If my holes are the correct size. If the prey is too big. No idea. I looked up everything I could find and talked to a couple people that successfully raised and bred them.

I’ll make a thread on care and what I’ve learned once I’ve seen them through a few molts and am more confident about what I’m doing. They seem to be thriving so far but as we all know, it can take awhile for incorrect care to actually start effecting them.

The questions I can answer...prey is about 1/8th crickets that are well fed.
They periodically wandered until they settled in but it was very frequent and almost frantic like. Feeding response has been great when hungry and settled in their holes. I fed them daily for the first couple days because they were pretty slim when I got them, now they eat every 2-3 days. Usually 1-2 1/8th crickets. The Ts are 2i so very small, I’m not sure exactly how big. They are bigger than other dwarf species I’ve raised (like elegans). But obviously still tiny. I’ve very slightly moistened the substrate for humidity and I also put a few drops of water all around their holes every other day. They will drink the water when thirsty, I’ve witnessed them all drink. The ventilation I have set up like you would an Avicularia. Temps are 78-82F.

Interesting thanks!

I have not! They are getting materials somewhere but I’m not sure if they are just using what I sprinkled in their holes and on the cork, or sneaking down at night 🤔🤷‍♀️

Hey just wanted to update you! So they all have doors and at least one is in premolt. I figured out where they were getting materials, they ripped pieces of lichen and cork off the cork bark themselves. I was honestly shocked watching it as they are tiny! They did not use the materials I provided. I did get lucky with a very soft log of cork with tons of lichen that I broke up. Maybe if provided harder cork...they would have used my materials? I honestly don’t know. I’ll keep providing it just to be safe.

They are doing well. Sometimes after misting the cork I see them come out slightly for a drink, always staying half in their hole.

Another interesting behavior. Most of them actually abandoned their first holes. They threw up a half ass door that didn’t really work then as they got more comfortable they abandoned that and built a new better door in a new hole. Usually this happened within a single night. I’d check on them and find them in a brand new hole with completed door. No idea why they did this, not all did it but the majority did.

Helpful thanks! I hope they survive!
