Picked this up today off craiglist, guy only knew the common name: "purple starburst bird eater". That name comes up as P. sp machala but would like to make sure.
Pamphobeteus spp. are pretty hard to ID by color alone, looking at the spermatheca in a molt might help. If your planning to breed it I wouldnt unless your 100% what it is.
It is really difficult to identify them from photographs. There are just too many undescribed species floating around. I would not feel comfortable breeding this individual. I have an adult female and she doesn't look like this. This one looks more similar to my Pamphobeteus fortis.

Yea, I figured it would be nearly impossible to ID based off photos alone. This specimen is a juvie still, about 3 or 3.5 inches so maybe it’ll be more distinguishable upon maturity. Either way, I don’t plan on breeding I was more so just curious as to what I picked up!
