First Papilio polyxenes to emerge from chrysalis

This male stuck around and chilled with me for a good 20 min or so while sunning his wings, getting ready for the big takeoff.
Are you able to sex the caterpillars, or do you have to wait until they are butterflies?
He sure is breathtaking.
 
@Vanessa First time raising them, just happened to find them on our parsley plants. After some googling I found info on the species and their sexually dimorphic traits. Males have more yellow in their wings with females having more blue. From what I gathered I couldnt find any indicating factors for sexing the pupae.
