This is literally my favorite salamander. I used to find them often as a kid, not so much anymore.

its literally the first time I have seen this species in the flesh...usually we get the blue one or on occasion the tigers.

I found one once under a rotted tree I looked under, adult, jet black with yellow/orange spots. Never forgot that day.

Sure wish I could find the blue spotted salamander they are gorgeous.

Your so lucky! most we get here in the uk are tiny brown newts maybe an inch long. Very cool find, congratulations.

yes the USA is- it has the largest number of salamander species in the world.
