@LeonExotic - As a kid, I often lived with my grandpa. He shared my love for all bugs, and when he came across spiders he would often name them Horatio or Gerald and say that they were in show business together. (I don't even know...he's an eccentric 85 year-old). In the house, it was a sin to kill bugs, especially spiders. Our ceiling, all across the house, was FULL of communities of daddy long legs. I loved it. I really enjoyed watching the Baby Long Legs grow and spread out.
One time he was telling us some long stories (one time? more like ALL THE TIME) and I looked over at him in amazement. There was a tiny spider literally making a web on my grandpa, starting at his ear, going down to his shoulder, and anchored on his neck. He had been sitting so still that a spider literally decided he would make a good home. I don't even know how long I was just watching this spider. When I finally told him, we both felt bad for having to relocate him and destroy his work, but, uh...no other options there.
omg I'm dead. Nothing will make my day bad now haha. The closest story I have to that is when I was massaging a client (I'm a massage therapist btw) and a little itsy bitsy spider started floating in front of my face. He was strung from the ceiling lowering himself down to my client. I just grabbed his string and put him in a corner
@LeonExotic - My grandpa is the best. Really. I love spiders, but I am still apprehensive to handle certain species, especially the Latrodectus spp. I once remember getting spooked by a brown widow, my older sister (the arachnophobe) started screaming. My grandpa just scooped the little spider up in his bare hands and scoffed at us. "She's not going to hurt you! Calm down!" She was gently placed somewhere else, far away from the screaming.
He has a huge heart, even for those feared eight-legged creatures. He starts crying when those ASPCA commericals come on, that big softie.
I've had several encounters with wee baby spiders stringing themselves down from the ceiling. It was kind of fun to catch them while they're still trying to slink downwards. <3
