Doesnt really answer the question very well.

The blog is a brief summary. To go more into detail you need to read the paper on the bottem. http://arxiv.org/PS_cache/arxiv/pdf/0902/0902.3518v1.pdf
Not that I understand much of it, to be honest. I usually sit back while my wife goes on about things like this and just nod and smile pretending to understand what she is on about

The important part now though is if they can replicate the data. If that is possible, then who knows what we can make out of it

They've already found a way to synthesize it. they spliced the web making genes of spiders into the udders of goats, and once the goats are milked, the protiens can then be strained out and processed.

Correct, but they never understood why spiders silk was stronger than silkworms. This paper prrove that the bonds in the design are what makes them stong.

So now the catch is to get the goats to not only produce silk.. but to force them to produce the silk at the same helic structure as spiders, and we hve BP vests home grown
