I am at a complete loss as to what type of insect this is, let alone species. I found 2 of them in Buenos Aires Province, active during the day. The body is about 5cm and the antennae are about 4 times the length of the body!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated ....

Thanks in advance

orthopteran

Looks like a member of Orthoptera family and based on your description of long antennae, it's likely a katydid or close relative.

I'd say a coneheaded katydid (Conocephalidae), but I'm really no expert...

Looks like Family Tettigoniidae, a type of katydid.

Giant Ground Katydid, nymph, varieties are common from southern Mexico all the way down South America. Least that's my guess. I have a photo of an adult I took.... about 7 inches long...

Thanks people !

Not too sure about this though, I think it´s prob from a similar family but these guys have got heads that don´t resemble grasshoppers and their wings and wing cases have been reduced to useless stubbs

I´m still confused

Thanks for the help though
