Tarantulas on Ceramics

Some of you may have seen the arachnid paintings I've done. Now I'm exploring the idea of putting them on ceramic work! Here's a small dish I just finished. It's hand built and the design is carved into it. Approximately 6" diameter.

Ooh, is this that thing where you have black clay and paint it with white slip and then carve out the slip when it is leather hard?

As a fellow bug artist I have to step in and say that's super cool. Sign me up for a series of tarantula motif dishware! Ceramics aren't my wheelhouse, but if you ever wanna PM me to talk shop feel free!

It is! The technique is called sgraffito. =)
