When making a burrowing enclosure how long does it take for the substrate to completely dry? I have an 100w lamp that has been sitting over the enclosure for days but only the surface is dry. Also the lamp is not a lamp that is made for reptiles, can this lamp work or does it have to be labeled for reptiles?

If it's not a heat lamp it wont be providing anything to speed up the waters evaporation. You need to bring in a fan or use a new bulb.

My 1969 Easy Bake Oven could bake a cake in < 20 minutes using only a regular 100 watt bulb. Liquid batter to solid cake. I think your light bulb will dry things out eventually -- how long will depend on the depth of substrate....

Ok, I may of been a little harsh on the regular bulbs. I forgot they can get it done!

the best way to dry the substrate out is to put a heat mat beneath it and leave it uncovered. the heat will evaporate the moisture quickly. you can also set it outside in the sun too.
