Very interesting Eric!!! ;)
I wasn't aware of this species. Nice looking scorp. Are they from arid regions?

i would never have guessed heterometrus, but now that i have been told what it is, i can see the heterometrus features quite clearly.

Hey Eric, I'm after them as well..... ;)

Don't you just love those scientific names????

Xanthopus in Greek means the one with the blonde feet!
and you can easily understand why they have this name...

Greetings,

Eric I was reading the Heterometrus revision paper by Kovarik and it is mentioned that no H.Xanthopus are native to Pakistan???
See the chart in page 56.

Same goes for the species native to Pakistan info that is on your site.

Are you sure these were collected in Pakistan?
Strange ??

BTW have you tried to mate them?

Hi Nikos,

Yes I saw also...
But this species is often imported from Pakistan as "Palamnaeus nara".

-As you know Palamnaeus = Heterometrus
-And "nara" is an area in the South of Pakistan, nearby the Indian frontier.

-So : probably the species is found in the area including "nara" in Pakistan + east of India (Gujarat, Rajasthan).
-Or : there are importers in south Pakistan who bring the species from East India and sell it (as Tanzanian importers sell species from neighbouring countries) ...but if that is the case, why they name it P."nara" ?

I think :
-this species is really a H.xanthopus (I think I well identified it with the Kovarik's paper, and I think Boris Striffler identified it also)
-it is found in the frontier South Pakistan / East India
-and you can add Pakistan in the Kovarik's paper, Fet's book, and on my website ;)

Greetings,
Eric
(PS. I tried to mate it but I think my female is already gravid, she don't want to mate)

I don't know, you're probably right, it seems that there are important seasons in this country.
And it seems that there are many landscapes in Pakistan, deserts, mountains... currently it is snowing in Islamabad (north Pakistan) and it's 27°C (80°F) in Karachi (near Nara area) !
Anyway, always quite difficult to give a resting phase to scorpions in captivity...
Greetings,
Eric
