I decided to start a new thread since u have one for my Vitronura giselae already, I don’t want to mix them up too much. Anywho, this week some eggs started hatching from my Morulina culture I’ve had for a few weeks. Apparently Morulina eggs take about the same time to hatch as it takes Vitronura giselae to go from egg to laying eggs! I was beginning to worry that keeping this giants would not be as easy as i hoped. Right when I thought that, they all started hatching. The baby Morulina are a gorgeous purple color that gets darker as they grow!
Some of the young Morulina (with some V. giselae I am slowly removing from this culture) 53651887164_1a778344a7_o.jpeg

Juvenile Morulina that has gotten a lot darker. 53650669017_af1dd89668_o.jpeg
And lastly an adult feeding on some slime mold. 53651539826_f93e3fda2f_o.jpeg

Holy smokes, these are beautiful! Thank you for sharing these pictures. It's a shame there is so much beauty in nature invisible to the naked eye.

These are extraordinary. Your photography is amazing as always! Very beautiful. Planned to get some funky isopods again sometime soon, think these will be something I look into also. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

I recently had my Morulina identified and I am keeping two separate species. The one I have posted previously is Morulina delicata, this is my other, Morulina callowayia 53714824463_4f3c48840d_o.jpeg 53714950009_5a33bb575c_o.jpeg 53714824468_a3eb065f79_o.jpeg 53715043375_fc4ce2a050_o.jpeg 53704548085_890a366f09_o.jpeg 53704451624_28d63333e3_o.jpeg

Who would think I’d love a pic of springtails eating slime mold, lol. Your images are quite striking and really magnify a beauty most would never chance to see.

Are there any problems with hybridization or do they occur sympatrically?

Thanks,

I am not positive but I don’t think they can hybridize. I found M. delicata and M. callowayia in the same place, there was way more M. callowayia but still clearly two distinct species in the same habitat and location. I think if they could hybridize, there would be a weird hybrid I’d see or just one species would be present. I don’t know though but my uneducated answer is I doubt it lol
