My first T (an adult B. albo) molted for the first time since I've had her about a month ago. She was holed up in her hide with the exoskeleton since then, but finally came out today (and ate a cricket). I removed the molt and have attached pictures. I have a couple questions:

  • I was pretty certain it is a female based on the seller's info and feedback on pictures posted here, but I figured I would try and confirm from the molt. Am I correct that the area circled in red on the second picture confirms its a female?
  • I also found what looks like a large piece of skin (like a hide) buried in the substrate (see 3rd pic). Is this from the abdomen?
Thanks!

That’s THE tarantula keeping experience that never gets old. Regarding your questions: 1) Yep, you are correct. 2) Some T’s make short work of their molts by shredding them, usually to the angst of their keepers who are trying to determine sex. Looks like your girl is a shredder.
