Pack them in an inner container with some leaves of the foodplant and some damp tissue paper, you want to put enough foodplant in so that nothing in there bounces about and the sticks have room to move but plenty to hold on to.
Put the first box inside a larger, sturdy box that will stand up to the handling of the post office, I get corrugated cardboard boxes from the supermarket and cut them down if needed. Pad out this box with plenty of crumpled newspaper and put the stick insect box in the middle with more padding on top. Tape up well so that it will not come open in the post.
This seems to work for me sending inverts through the post.
