OMG you guys, I am on cloud 8!!! StormsWeb sent my his male G. aureostriata, Shiva. A beautiful, and quite, um, RANDY fellow!! I put him in with St. Mary (who Chris Young so named because she wouldn't umm, "put out"!) Well, he tapped, she tapped, fangs extended and they were at it in SECONDS!!

So, what I'm wondering is... how successful have y'all been in breeding this species? Sure, mating is easy enough, but have you gotten viable egg sacs? Do they lay soon, or wait until the cows come home?

I got some GREAT T porn shots, but you will have to wait until tomorrow morning. I can't plug my cam in at home!!!;P (I am SUCH a tease!!)

With me one female out of 3 dropped a sack and produced slings. I bred all 3 of them over a dozen times a piece with the same male over the course of nearly a year before she dropped it. My vote is wait till the cows come home as mine took something like 9 or 10 months.

Terri,
It must have been my stern fatherly approach to her, coddling her and what not.
I've had decent success with aureostriata, with my female producing a sack with 500 slings. She and the male lived together in the same enclosure for 6 mos, breeding repeatedly. They would share the water bowl, share the hide log together, even eat next to each other. Way neat!
Anyway, you should be able to bring the sack to term no sweat. I left the sack with the female for 40-45 days, and then removed it and placed it in the hammock setup, though I had to use two hammocks to accomodate all of the egg nymphs.
Congrats are in order!!! I'm very pleased that such a great spider is going to have offspring.

Yeah, and I'm sure the males were a little put off by the shotgun you were toting!!:D

You're right about her being such a great spider... she still IS a saint!! (You raised her well!) And thanks for the encouragement, I was peeking through the curtains, looking for the cows to come up the driveway!!;)

I bred my female to Scott Bemis's male on Aug. 7th, last year. She produced a sac a month later. I pulled it after 6 weeks as she was very protective the whole time and was doing such a good job. I think we ended up with over 500. Best Wishes!! John

*ahem*

<shameless plug and mod moment>

For those of you with breeding successes (or even failures), there is a forum for filing reports on this. That way we can have a nice, orderly archive of these experiences for others to refer to long after this thread is buried and lost except for those who know how to use the search function. Heck, I even index the breeding reports forum.

Come on CM, some one just had a question about breeding Ts. I know I'm new here but it seems to me like this was a valid post to the T forum. I'm not trying to start an argument because I know I wouldn't win in a battle of wits with you. My only complaint is that you played the mod card. I don't see you do that on any forums except the ones you are a mod on (but, then again, I'm pretty new here). Anyway, I appreciate CMs input on these boards as well as everyone elses. All of you have helped me a lot.

Learn to read. My post was directed at Phillip and tarantulakeeper who have never posted to the breeding reports forum.

My post in CM's wonderful breeding reports forum:) ;) will echo most of the following comments. I mated a male from John Apple to 2 of my females last year. One of the females produced a sac about 7-8 weeks later of which I got 814 slings. The other female molted about six months later without making a sac. Good luck!

You forgot me Chip, I started the thread. I need a spanking too!! I will be SURE to post detailed results in the breeding forum!

Wow, such varied results. Just as I expected, I'm going to have to sit on the edge of my seat for a YEAR!! FABULOUS pictures forthcoming, I'm getting ready for work right now....

I'm not spanking anyone unless you really want me too ;)

Phillip, in particular, I know has numerous breeding successes and failures under his belt and could single handedly add a ton of good info to the breeding reports forum. I'd like to see this stuff collected in one place because the sort of information I ask for is the sort of stuff we need to collect so we can actually form informed guides of breeding. Right now what happens is you get a singular post like this one and 2 or 3 people will pop up and give their responses and then, poof, it's gone and buried. The next time the topic comes up for that species another 2 people will post some info. I think it would be damn spanky if we could get all the people to collect that info in a useable format in one place for reference.

That's the sort of stuff that we don't have in the hobby and it's the sort of stuff we *need* to grow this hobby. Right now it seems like every person who attempts breeding is re-exploring the same frontier with only one or two native guides to keep them from rowing off the cliff but little more than that to work with.

You said "spanky"!!=D And I agree, so I'm re-starting this thread! I was so excited when I posted it, I didn't take the time to look at the breeding boards.

For those of you who have had previous breeding experience with G. aureostriasta, could you please post it here so that we can ALL glean information from your experience? Thank you!

But, I'M STILL POSTING THE PORNO PICS ON THIS THREAD!!! ;)

Before viewing the photo below, please remove any sub-adult slings from the room....
