From what I can see in those pictures (which isn't much) it appears to be a scarab larva of some sort - but that's about the best I can tell you. Even if I could see more than just a jar of dirt/crushed wood with blurry glimpses of a beetle grub, it is unlikely that I would be able to narrow it down much further. There are a great many scarabaeiform beetle larvae that all look more-or-less alike. In order to differentiate between them, one would need to do an up-close examination of their raster pattern (the arrangement of hairs, spines, and bald patches around their anus) with a magnifying glass or microscope - and have a good key to scarabaeiform raster patterns to match it to.

Welcome to AB! Probably Cotinis, assuming you caught it in New York.

I know that this is old but from the location collected and head capsule it’s a lucanidae sp, maybe dorcus parallelus? Could also be lucanus capteolus as well.

Almost positive they are lucanus but not sure what type. Hopefully Lucanus elaphus but guessing Lucanus capteolus. Any ideas would be appreciated. Only one of my other larvae matured out. This time they are being raised on crushed rotten hard wood, flake soil and bits of rotten wood. All substrate was sterilized in a pressure cooker.
