Aspen for beetles

Hello. I have a ton of aspen and I was wondering if I ferment it if it would be safe for beetle grubs? I always hear hardwood is safe but I never hear aspen or cottonwood being used. I want to breed fig eater beetle but I can’t get a good flake soil source so this would really help.

I've use the shavings they sell as animal bedding for dermestid beetles.
