Wow.....Yours is super nice also. I heard about them eating other frogs but if they are captive born they are more receptive to other items. Mine has been burried since tuesday (the day I got her) and it's all I can do not to dig her up. I think i'll give her til wednsday and if she's not up by...
Just thought I would show her off. Don't have a name for her yet so feel free to suggest one. She is truely something you don't see everyday. Now, time for the show......
Let me know what you think. Trey
Ok thanks guys.....I would say it's a chinese mantid. Now that thats known how can I tell if it's a male or female? Also how long do they live. Sorry for my ignorance in the subject, Trey
Ok, I was out with some friends at the local coffee house lastnight and say this big praying mantis on the building and I thought I would catch it. I don't know much about them as i've only owned one in my life and it lived about 4 days after laying a sac. I live in TN so does anyone know what...
Ok, I got bored tonight and walked down to the lake by my house and I caught a turtle. Well, when I put him in some water about 4 or more leeches popped off of him so I decided to grab one of them and put it in a glass container. My question is what can I buy for this little bugger to feed off...
I found a black widow with an egg sack so I caught the female and seperated her from her sack. My question is how can I SAFELY hatch the sack out without have an infestation of widows on my hands. What to put the sac in and how to take care of it until time of hatching? ANY info is greatly...
My OBT has built a coccoon in the upper right hand corner of it's enclosure. It is rejecting food so a molt could be the answer but is it safe for it to molt in the air?
Ok guys I took him out. He got spooked and bolted off and when he came back the drumming had stopped and she took off after him. I left him in there for a few more minutes to see if maybe they were both spooked but when he walked around her she whipped around fairly quickly. I don't know if he...
lol, they are still going at it. It seems that when he tries to raise her up pedipalps are aimed at her abdomen. I hope he can figure it out before she gets tired of it.
Ok, I might have a problem. They have been doing the drumming dance and trying to breed since about 1:00 this afternoon and it looks like the male is having a problem lifting the female. I hope after all this the male isn't too small for her.
lol, yeah.....I have to get something to eat in a bit so I guess i'll leave him in there. Hopefully I won't miss much but at this rate I don't think I will.
They are trying to breed right now. He is trying to coax her out of her burrow so he can lift her. Just as I wrote that he backed off so I will keep him in there over night. Both are drumming and recptive so I don't see any harm.
He's doing the same thing the other male did. He's walking around the sides of the tank and now he's clung to the top. I don't know if I should just leave him alone or shark tank him again and place him right in front of her den. What do you think?
Yeah.....He's in there shark tanked right now and she's showing no receptive signs yet. Im going to leave him tanked for about 2 hours and see if anything happens and if not he's outta there. How should I take care of her if she is pregnant? Change food, how often, cool down etc.?
Well, Before he got it he was in there over night and there was 8-10 hours I was asleep so I guess he could've but when I woke up she was still drumming. Doesn't really mean that much because she might not have known she was "pregnant" yet. I'll try this guy a few more times. Maybe I caught her...
Alright guys, I introduced my male tonight and after an "intense" 2 hour time period he finally moved to the female (which was 1 inch in front of him) and as he put his foot on hers she took off after him but luckily he got away. Guess i'll try again tomorrow!
I went ahead and took him out. I felt that I didn't have enough time to really fool around with it since im going out of town tomorrow. I'll let him have some nice R & R before he becomes dinner lol. No, but really it'll give me something to look forward to when I get back.
