I keep my spiders at room temperature, no heat no ac, coldest would be in the high 40s in winter, and occasional mid 90s in summer, but most of the year they are in the 70-80 range. I'm in Southern California.

Just a thought, so it is humane to let the roach to be grabbed and dissloved or digested alive by the tarantula, but to crush the head or cut it to pieces isn't. This isn't the humane type of hobby.
Please define spoiled fruits and veggies. I do feed my colony with some really brown and over ripe bananas, semi spoiled apples or fruits (nothing moldy) and whatever that I won't eat from my fridge. They eat them all up.
I have kept P regalis and P striata in communal without losing any of the spiders. Currently I have several P regalis in a communal. If provided with enough prey items, I don't think they would eat each other. But if there aren't enough food, I think it can be a different story. After all...
