This was sold to me as a "Golden Tarantula" but could not find any info on this one. He was a mature male when I got him and lived almost 4 years in my care. He was docile and only kicked hairs once. I never knew his species but he seemed to prefer dry substrate over damp.
@Dovey Someone else mentioned that species so I did some research. I'm almost positive that he was euathlus parvulus. Everything I've read about them matches. And yes it definitely does look like him. Thanks so much! I've been wanting to know what he was so I can look for another one.
I can't think of a higher recommendation for a species. Tom at Tomsbigspiders@wordpress.com likes them a lot, too:
"The Euathlus parvulus (formally Paraphysa parvula), or “Chilean Gold burst” as it’s commonly referred to, is a beautiful little T from Chile. Reaching a medium size of around 4″, these tarantulas generally have a calm, sweet disposition. I purchased my girl as a sub-adult from Jamie’s Tarantulas in October of 2013, and she has become one of my favorites...there is something about her calmness that I rather enjoy, and she’s the only tarantula I own who I would describe as dainty."
