You are looking for the presence or absence of epiandrous fusillade. They look like little bristles or hair like structures between the book lungs. my method is if the part between upper book lungs looks like this: I I - male +dark patch of belly button, / \ - female, also the shape of book lungs and butt is a bit different.
if you get a molt, it should have a little flap where the 'girly' bits are.
