It also looks predatory from the mandibles. Which has me leaning to some type of aquatic insect larva. Might be dragonfly, beetle or something similar.
Found under a rock on a dirt patch, half a mile from a creek, on a mountain. It kind of resembles more of a beetle or something. Never seen anything like it before.
False bombardier beetle larva. I saw one at my work a couple years back and it confused me beyond belief. It took seeing an adult for the upteenth time last year for it to finally click for me that the head and pronotum are so similar
@PidderPeets yep. I think you are right. False Bombadier Beetle. They are predatory as larvae and adult. Adults like caterpillars. So set it free op to eat those nasty pests.
