No, the pattern is on the new skin (1. Nymphae skin) and shines through the old larvae skin.
It appears some days before the moult to nymphae / 1. juvenil instar.
before these moult they get darker every day because there are more and more exuvial fluid between the old an new skin. Right before the moult they are almost black, especially on the legs and carapace.
You can see these change very well on these two siblings.
The one above is very bright. The one below is a bit further and darker.
