I'm relatively new to the hobby and just received an order that includes my first arborial slings (2 A. versicolors and a P. Irminia). I need to get some stuff for them to climb on and had read you could collect your own wood so long as it is properly sterilized, and have found people using boiling, baking, and microwaving to do so. What are the pros/cons to these methods? How long should one boil/bake/nuke the wood? Is any method more effective than others? What are your experiences and opinions?

I prefer BAKING the wood at 375 for 20 min. Mist the wood first to drw out the crap inside. I find this because it kills off all the mold spores and what not.. No cons really.

Rinse the wood off, let it dry then use it.

There really isn't any need to boil/bake/nuke or otherwise sterilize it. The only thing you might want to watch out for is the kind of wood you use.
