So what's the best way to collect scorpions in the wild? I live in New Mexico so I assume there are some cool species around. Anyone have any suggestions?

Portable black lights at night time. For sure youre best bet. Also rocky walls and piles of wood and or sand dunes/savahna areas.

Does anyone know if Hadrurus species live in New Mexico or is it just Vaejovis and Centuroides?

Yea, I can feel the excitment over the internet, please do post some pics. Everyone makes me jealous, I suppose you should too. :(

Catch whatever, just beware of what do don't try to catch.

This site provides a list of species by state. I can't personally attest to its accuracy, though. Also, it doesn't indicate where in the state things can be found. It is a good starting point, though.

Cheers,
Dave

I've just ordered this one. I haven't received it yet, though, and so don't know how good it is.

Cheers,
Dave

Mat,

I've had my light shipped to John (Kugellager)'s house. In order to get another one shipped to get there in time for me to pick it up, you'd probably have to pay as much as you would to get it shipped to you directly. You'd even get it sooner, as we won't be back in Canada until the end of the month.

Cheers,
Dave

EDIT: Better yet, wait until I post a report on it, and then make your choice. I'll probably post one from John's house.

Also...warm moonless nights are supposedly the best nights to look for scorps...haddies are best sought in the fall at the end of the monsoon season...which is the reason you see them commonly available at that time of year.
