i was just wondering if anyone could tell me if whip scorpions are communal

Are you referring to the Uropygi (vinegaroons) or Amblypygi (whipspiders/tailless whipscorpions)? If Vinegaroons, then it is usually better to keep them seperate. If it is the Amblypygi, then in most cases they do well in communal set-ups.
