Well I have many choices. Nothing is off the table. Price is no factor in this question. I have owned P. metallica, P. miranda, P. pederseni, and P. subfusca before but I don't currently own any pokies. Now I have $200 to spend. What would you do with $200 to spend on Pokies? Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

i would use the 200 and find a dealer/breeder/owner to work a deal. the average sling seems to be between 20 and 40 (ime) but ive been :drool:ing over the subfuscas and baras lately . maybe find somebody with a couple of them and theyll throw in one or two of the diff. pokies? either way, money talks and im sure ya could get a great deal somewhere... you could always buy multiple of the same species and go communal? id really like to try that.... may even end up with alot more slings that way that ya get to sell off or trade{D

Well I am leaning toward getting several P. miranda babies probably 4 or 5. My other option would be to get two P. subfusca or 1 P. metallica or 1 P. smithi....Also could get 2 P. tigrinawesseli. I am just unsure of which route to take

If I was able to get past the potency of pokie venom, I'd go with a Subfusca. But honestly, just choose the one that you think is the prettiest.

Well I think "practically everyone" would choose P. metallica as the prettiest. Some may choose P. subfusca but I doubt any of the others in the genus would even get a vote.

I actually find P. metallica the least visually appealing of all pokies, tied with P. smithi.
My fav is miranda, followed by ornata, regalis, rufilata, then perhaps subfusca.

For the OP, I would do it like this:

miranda $50
rufilata $40
ornata $30
regalis $25
pederseni $25

shipping $30

Total= $200

There you go- an awesome, well rounded pokie collection for $200 shipped.
I think that any one of those species alone are even more neat than a P. metallica, and it would be so much cooler to have all 5 of those than just one blue tarantula.

:)

I'd go for slings & get a P. miranda, P. subfusca, P. ornata, & P. rufilata :D

Or a combination of adult/juvie females of a couple of those particular ones.

That would be PERFECT!!! No reason in spending everything on 1 P. metallica, when you can get 5 Pokies for the same price!

Not only that, if one dies you still have a collection.

Putting all your cash in one specimen makes it that much more devastating if it dies.

agreed bumbling bear........... plus i personally think 2 of each of a cheaper species is great. aside from the hopes of breeding, i always hope for 1 f and 1 m that way i can study the differences between the sexes. after all, half the fun of a hobby like T KEEPING is gettin a chance to LEARN. not just look at pretty spiders. as an adult i dont get a chance to LEARN new things ( well, things worth learnin i should say) everyday, so to be able to take notes and compare things makes a hobby worth while and keeps it interesting

absolutely. buying things to display just because theyre pretty reminds me of when i was a kid goin to my grandmas house lookin at all the nicknacks lol.... spend a TON OF MONEY on things ya cant (or barely ever) touch and just look at. buyin tarantulas of all species and boostin up a collection would be just like that , if i werent givin a chance to study..... PLUS nicknacks dont pounce all over roaches and crickets destroyin em lol

I would definitely get a P.rufilata, alot of people seem to leave them out, when I think there one of the most beautiful pokies out there :) But also get a P.regalis, it seems to me that there out lounging around alot more than other pokies, so you always get a good view of them ;) Also, the Ruffies come out sometimes for like 3 or 4 days in the open once every month or two, and it's always a treat to see that :D But i think you should atleast get those two in your collection, I've had a P.subfasca and P.miranda, and out of those two i would choose the miranda, cus there out more of the time, and I love the color more :)
