Where's My Pede?

I just recently got my first centipede (Ethmostigmus trigonopodus) and i made the stupid mistake of putting an inch of substrate in his enclosure, and when i turned back, he was already buried. How do i make him more visible for more of the time? I've heard that just putting a good-quality hide in the enclosure will deter it burrowing, but it hasnt worked with my scorpions. Any ideas? Anyone?

My experience with this species is that they will burrow whenever they can, desppite being provided with hides.
I barely see mine.
