When will he come out?

My Grammo Aureo has walled himself up in his hide for the last few days. He seems fine in there, you can just barely see him. I guess I should be expecting a molt soon considering the fact that he's darker, not eating, more skittish, and his barricading of his hide. I love waking up and see his handy work. In the last pic you can just barely see him. If I only had a really small video camera, I could see what he is up to.

G. aureostriata seem to love to bulldoze substrate around, don't they? I would guess you are correct that a molt is immenent. How long he/she will be in there will depend on the size of the T., among other things. He could be in there a week, or a month. He will come out eventually. Don't put any food in the container, but keep the water dish full. Good luck!

Cool. You have a new T soon. He'll come out when he's hungry or thirsty. Keep the water up and wait until you see him with black fangs to offer food. Good luck.

Looks to me as if you have an upcoming moult there. Your T will come out when it is ready, and most likely be ready to show off a some beautiful new skin. Just be patient.

I'm laughing

I read the title to your thread and I thought, "I'll bet this is about a G. aureo" and I was right! Mine is the most maddening spider; it will sometimes wall itself in it's hide for months. 3 months is the record. He actually took food for two months while he was locked in there. I'd drop a roach in, and as soon as the roach got close to the hide, he'd reach out from a little space underneath and snag it and drag it back inside. Yes, eventually he'll molt, then make a big entrance, come back outside and eat like a horse again. The waiting is maddening. Good luck and be patient!

I recently had the same experience. My G.aureo blocked up all entrances to his log, and there he stayed for 2 months. Then, last week as a matter of fact, I pass by the tank and there he is. Not expecting to see him, I literally said "Hellooo!" out loud. The size increase was very noticeable, and he had a skinny skinny butt. He got fresh water (which I witnessed him drink), and some tasty crickets later that day.
Yeah, the wait stinks, but having other t's to observe helps. a lot

How long does this species take between moults?

I have a female and she's the only tarantula of mine who hasn't moulted in the time I've had them.

She's about 4"LS.

Alright so he did come out yesterday for and sat in the same position for an hour or two. Then he promptly went back into his hide. The next day I see he's walled it up even more. Right now he's right up against his wall, and I think he might break through it again.
