There is no too soon . When they hook out they hook out . Not much you can do .

He was 1.25 inches a year ago and about 3.5 the previous molt ( around sept 20/16) then molted again dec 25/16 and just emerged about 4 inches with his hooks and gloves.

I think I can safely say that they mature when they're damn ready to. You know, that 'no wine before it's time' thing.
