My g.Rosea recently maulted about 3 weeks ago she got through it very quickly and seemed to be stress free here as I was panicking like crazy as she is my first tarantula and the first mault I have witnessed and heard alot about t's getting very stressed and not being able to get through their mault. And way I went away for the weekend and got a call from my sister saying she had died I came home in about an hour to find she was half way through her mault my sister later told me she poked my tarantula rosalie with the feeding tweezers to see if she was alive. Since her mault she has been so vicious!! She chased me out of her tank yesterday for the 3rd time all I was doing is filling up her water bowl!! She turned and chased my hand up the glass tank!!! Why is she like this and will she ever change back?? Is it the mault? My sister poking her? Or just her as a tarantula??

Moult or molt ;)

Anyway, that's typical G. rosea behavior. They go through mood swings in and out of molts. It might stop the behavior, it might not. Just enjoy your spider the way it is. Nothing you can do.

I just brought home another rosie and the dude I got it from said she had molted "about a week ago." Well I went to clean her icky enclosure after I had been home a while and she charged my hand. Twice. No threat postures, but she really wanted a piece of whatever was wiggling her webbing.

Turned out that she was REALLY hungry! I actually saw her try to snag a cricket while she already had one in her mouth.

OP, i've dealt with five different G. rosea over the years, some exhibiting this turn on a dime behaviour after a moult, some not (or maybe holding out until a later moult to do it ;)). you might get some more personal experiences in this recent thread with pre/post-moult crazies... i know i listed mine at least.

it's just something you have to learn to accept, since rosea seem to be a weird bunch. and hope mr. or mrs. crabbypatty might go away in 1-2 years after the next moult.

with full grown rosea, feeding so quickly after a moult isn't generally advisable, since the fangs (and in most cases with bigger specimens, the tarantula in general) haven't fully hardened. i certainly hope the previous owner lost track of time...

Thats perfectly normal G. rosea behaveour. Unpredictable, strange and moody. Enjoy the spider as it is! :)
