I've noticed a few species' scientific names include quotation marks, most often with the Haplopelma sp. "longipedum". What's the purpose of using these quotation marks?
This is done because there is some question about the legitimacy of that particular name. Usually it has not been officially described by a taxonomist, or it's former name has been made invalid.
