what to keep?

i want to keep some interesting bugs this summer but dont know what to get
i have some ideas and need suggestions or advice
~Dynastid beetles(where to find grubs)
~any other beetle that are simple to keep
~any thing else you think would be good.

For beetles, I would go to the king of all beetles on the boards, Elytra and Antenna. He can tell you anything you will need to know incl. where to get grubs.

am i correct in assuming that non native beetles are illegal to keep?

It depends on your states rules and regs. There are quite a few people in the US who have beetles of foreign extraction. Personally, Elytra and Antenna can better answer that with more specifics. He has litterally written books on the subject.
