i dont know much about lizards but snake wise you should definitely have at least one boa preferably a brazilian rainbow boa ....i got one really calm snakes.

They are suppose to be nippy as babies but i didnt have this issue.

bearded dragons are fun. Uromastyx are fun too, and underrated. Both have lots of personality. My two uros and my (sister's) three beardies each have their own distinctive personality.

Geckos are fun, too. Blinky, my leopard gecko, has tons of attitude! and crested geckos are just so cute!

I have been thinking about a uro too...Dont like gekos the freak me out
So your carpet creeps you out as do leopard geckos....if they scare you then why do you keep them? You're supposed to love and respect your pet, not fear it.

What about rosy boas? They stay under 2 feet. and the brazilian rainbows reach about 5 or 6 feet

EDIT: Only consider a uro if you have the space and are able to keep it's cage REALLY hot.

Jungle carpets are like any other snake...handle it on a regular daily basis except when it wants to be left alone and it will be safe to handle by your self. its not like you are have a burmese or an african rock python.

And if you dont feel you'll be able to handle it safely as an adult you need to give it to someone who feels like they can before you have an accident or something

carpet pythons are really sweet snakes...hence their growing popularity. just handle it regularly and it'll be fine.

have you considered rosy boas? they stay around 2 or maybe 3 feet and make wonderful pets

Kenyan sand boas (aka sand sausages) are great little snakes. As far as lizards go, ever consider an african plated lizard? They are wiggly little guys but my friend's likes to sit in our hair and chill.
